A Secret to Success as a Working Mom: Turn Burn Out Into Bliss and Embrace Joy

Last weekend my youngest was committed to going to the "Water Steps" a man-made water fall in Pittsburgh by the rivers. (Fun Fact: Three rivers converge in Pittsburgh--The Ohio River, The Monongahela River, and the Allegheny River.)  He kept asking. I knew he was serious when he said, "If you won't take me, I'll ask  daddy!" Given that it was highly unlikely that would happen on an unscheduled day, I relented. So, we went. It wasn’t planned in the way most things in my life are. No calendar block. No checklist. No “productive” purpose attached. And, so in some respects it was uncomfortable. And yet, it seemed necessary. It was the idea of my 8-year-old—offered with the kind of urgency only children possess when something is profoundly important to them.

Comments from Vacation: Disney World, a great place to take a nap! #DisneySide

Most people visit Disney World in search of fun, adventure and rides. Apparently some people even go for the food because since we have returned everyone keeps asking us what we ate.

We may be the only family who visited Disney World and immediately went in search of a good place to nap.

As I mentioned in the previous post, because I was in search of a way to save a dollar we took the longest bus ride known to man to get to Disney World.  As I said, free does come at a steep price. If you're considering what we did, don't. It wasn't worth it, even if it did give me some good blog fodder!

Because Andre was anxious to get to Disney World and not "waste the day away" we went to Disney World before our daughter's nap time. Before we left, and before the longest bus ride ever, it seemed like a good idea. After we arrived it became clear that we should have stuck to the schedule.

The toddler was beyond irritable. So, Andre made an executive decision and decided that our first order of business was a nap. Off we went in search of a place"The Plaza Rose Garden". It is next to a stream. It is covered so there is ample shade. It is quiet. It is perfect.  Honest to goodness, the toddler and Andre slept there about two hours!

Even though their nap meant that I was left to walk around by myself looking like to weird girl with no friends who for some reason wanted to come to Disney and pay $7.00 for a water and a mouse shaped rice crispy treat, it was worth it.

After they woke up both of them were in great spirits and were ready to explore.

Fortunately, I met another mom named Nicole who gave me the scoop. She lives in Disney World, has a toddler and a season pass to Disney World. If we hadn't met her we may have left earlier and missed out on all of the great rides that are toddler appropriate.  After following Nicole's tips we found lots of things for a toddler to do. We went on rides. We saw a movie. And we made memories that will last us a lifetime.

If we hadn't met her our toddler would have left Disney World without experiencing "It's a Small World Afterall".  And, that would have been most unfortunate. Thanks Nicole!
