Celebrating Black Maternal Health Week #BMHW25

Mom and three kids Greetings from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! Things have been busy. I am still a working mom of three, working full time who is trying to make a difference. I do a lot of things and try to be present so that I can learn from them. I share them on this blog so that we can learn together. Below are some thoughts, hacks, and/or lessons that I have learned from navigating my world. Black Maternal Health Week April 11-17, 2025 I am a Black mom to three wonderful children. I was blessed to have three successful births. While I am an attorney, my third delivery highlighted the potential risks that occur when a physician fails to listen to the birthing person. Initially, I chalked it up to the physician involved and limited it to my personal birthing experience. Then, I learned that I was not special. Overwhelmingly, Black women experience higher rates of birth trauma, birthing complications and negative birth outcomes.  These statistics are what lead to the creation of ...

Mommy Mondays: A Balanced Day

I wrote so much this weekend that I wonder if there's anything left to say. However, this is Chaton's World and ever day is an opportunity to live, experience and share.

Like a lot of working moms my day began with housework...

I began today rushing around. I got up late. I didn't get out of bed until 6:30AM, which is much later than my goal. After tripping over some ish stuff on the stairs, I straightened the house. We won't say who left the stuff there. Since it's the Christmas season, let's just blame that stuff on the elf on the shelf... After straightening up I seasoned some chicken for the week that I had neglected to season last night. There was no blog writing, no writing for Parents Society and no strategizing.

Contrary to what my boss thinks every morning is not a combination of bliss and relaxation. Most of the time I am working hard.

The work day began with a meeting and ended with some accomplishments and some things that will wait until tomorrow.

I was fortunate to end my work day at a happy hour with the Pittsburgh Steelers!

After work I had drinks with a friend. It was a nice holiday treat. We talked and shared. And I remembered how my friends have helped me through these years.

While we were having our drinks Charlie Batch and some other members of the Pittsburgh Steelers arrived. It was nice to see them since they just had a huge win over Baltimore. Charlie  threw the winnng catch to Heath Miller who graduated from The University of Virginia, my alma mater, which made it even more exciting for me.

Seeing them was a nice way to cap off the day. After leaving happy hour mommy time began again. I arrived home. I hugged the toddler and put her to bed. I even got in some good cuddle time with Andre before drifting off to sleep.

Not to jinx it but today was balanced even if I was wearing patent leather Miu Miu shoes!

And you gave great advice to your sister!!!! Balance is prioritizing what's important and then figuring how to get it done. Some of the things you juggle may fall but the key to balance is realizing that even though they may fall you can pick it back up so you can start again. In life you get a do-over so my goal is to avoid the big pitfalls in order to minimize the clean up effort
