One Secret to Success for a Working Mom, Expand Your Village (Jack and Jill of America)

Jack and Jill of America member and her daughter Recently, I have become keenly aware that good kids are created by accident. They become good because someone made a concerted effort to pour positive things into them--things like, honor, discipline and respect for others. These qualities are taught through lessons and by observation. For that reason, I have been actively considering how to give my children more examples of people who embody those qualities.  Indeed, raising my children to become good people is my most important job.

A Peek Into the Life of a Working Mom: The Struggle to Keep My House Clean

We may need to get a larger home just so that we can have another room. You know the room where you throw things you don't want to see and keep the door closed.

It's no secret to those who read my blog that I struggle to keep my house clean. However, I am usually more adept at keeping that secret from those who come to visit. Not today though. Today, I was exposed.

Mike, the Comcast guy, came over to help us with our "little" problem. We haven't had a home phone or the Internet since Wednesday night. Having the Internet out has been bad enough. I haven't been able to blog, tweet or Facebook from my laptop in days. Since the toddler used all of the data allocated for my iPad I haven't been able to use the Internet thought that either. I have yet to do my taxes and haven't been able to start them since we've had not connection. And trying to keep up with my social media connections via my cell phone has been disappointing.

Once I realized that the home phone was out too I realized that we had to correct the problem, soon. Nothing strikes fear into the heart of a working mom like no home phone. What if the nanny's cell phone and the toddler's cell phone both go out and there's an emergency?! How can I ensure that they're at home when they're supposed to be if I can't check on them??? And our house alarm isn't very effective without the home phone.

My imagination can go into overdrive quickly. Thank goodness the Comcast guy showed up before I got completely out of hand and fixed the problem, it was worth it, even if my place wasn't fit for company...
