Celebrating Black Maternal Health Week #BMHW25

Mom and three kids Greetings from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! Things have been busy. I am still a working mom of three, working full time who is trying to make a difference. I do a lot of things and try to be present so that I can learn from them. I share them on this blog so that we can learn together. Below are some thoughts, hacks, and/or lessons that I have learned from navigating my world. Black Maternal Health Week April 11-17, 2025 I am a Black mom to three wonderful children. I was blessed to have three successful births. While I am an attorney, my third delivery highlighted the potential risks that occur when a physician fails to listen to the birthing person. Initially, I chalked it up to the physician involved and limited it to my personal birthing experience. Then, I learned that I was not special. Overwhelmingly, Black women experience higher rates of birth trauma, birthing complications and negative birth outcomes.  These statistics are what lead to the creation of ...

A Peek Into the Life of a Working Mom: Kenny Chesney Comes to Pittsburgh

I have been pretty faithful to my Saturday morning runs for the past few months and it has felt good. There is something really empowering about being up before most people, including my family, and touring the city by foot. Sometimes, I run with a group, but most often I have been running alone.

As a working mom, I value my solitude and I enjoy the endorphins that come with running. The "runner's high" is real!

This morning, the sun was shining, the humidity was low and it was getting hot. However, even though I enjoy it, I didn't really want to run this morning. My bed was warm, Andre was in it, and sleep is very seductive.

Still, I got up, laced up my sneakers and I powered through it. And eventually it started to feel really good. As I ran, I noticed that there were a lot more people up and about. There were pick up trucks and cowboy hats everywhere. There were little girls in cowboy boots. There was music playing in the air. It was as if Pittsburgh was having a great big party before 8:00AM. I had to find out what was going on!

Being the curious girl that I am, I finally asked someone what was going on. Then I learned that today is the day that Kenny Chesney is coming to Pittsburgh. And even though the show doesn't start until 5:00PM, people have already started to get it in.

The only way I could think to give you a sense of the energy was by video. So, I approached a crowd of guys and said, "Hi I have a blog and would like to make a video with you." They immediately agreed to participate and invited me to party with them later. I wish I had been that smooth when I was single...

Being a blogger is a tough job, but somebody's got to do it!

Even though I won't be attending the concert, I'll be forever grateful to Kenny Chesney for this post. Here's the video!

(NOTE: No young men were harmed in the making of this video. :-))
