Mom and three kids Greetings from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! Things have been busy. I am still a working mom of three, working full time who is trying to make a difference. I do a lot of things and try to be present so that I can learn from them. I share them on this blog so that we can learn together. Below are some thoughts, hacks, and/or lessons that I have learned from navigating my world. Black Maternal Health Week April 11-17, 2025 I am a Black mom to three wonderful children. I was blessed to have three successful births. While I am an attorney, my third delivery highlighted the potential risks that occur when a physician fails to listen to the birthing person. Initially, I chalked it up to the physician involved and limited it to my personal birthing experience. Then, I learned that I was not special. A Peek Into the Life of a Working Mom: Independence Day

I have so many posts in my head and so little time to write them. I'll catch up soon. For now, I'm going to give an ode to one of my favorite holidays, "The 4th of July"!
 
My love of the holiday is chronicled in my post from last year, A Peek Into the Life of a Blogger Mom: 4th of July Fashion,  http://chatonsworld.blogspot.com/2012/07/peek-into-life-of-blogger-mom-4th-of.html. I just reviewed that piece again. We were cute last year. I need to start planning our outfits for tomorrow! :-)
 

Why I love the 4th of July

 
I love the 4th of July because it tends to be warm, which leads to lots of fun. It's a great break from work, which is welcome by this working mom. We tend to be around our families.  Tomorrow we are hosting a cookout, which is a great excuse to have great food and great drinks! (If you have any special 4th of July cocktail recipes send them to me!) Also, I am partial to festivals.  Pittsburgh hosts the Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta every year that has lots of good food and free, family fun.

If that's not enough, who doesn't have fun when there are fireworks?! Even though we get our fair share of fireworks because of the generosity of the Pittsburgh Pirates, the ones on the 4th of July are special. Whenever I see fireworks they tend to punctuate fun-filled times and inspire romance...

The other reason I like this holiday is because there are no presents to buy. The sole purpose is F-U-N! Wait, I may need to re-visit my history lessons. I think I vaguely recall something about it being Independence Day. I may buy a flag or something... :-)
