One Secret to Success for a Working Mom, Expand Your Village (Jack and Jill of America)

Jack and Jill of America member and her daughter Recently, I have become keenly aware that good kids are created by accident. They become good because someone made a concerted effort to pour positive things into them--things like, honor, discipline and respect for others. These qualities are taught through lessons and by observation. For that reason, I have been actively considering how to give my children more examples of people who embody those qualities.  Indeed, raising my children to become good people is my most important job.

A Peek into the Life of a Working Mom: Entertaining Small Children When it Rains

I love the summer, but struggle on what to do with the toddler on rainy days. Our home is small and staying there all day can give us cabin fever!

Entertaining Small Children When it Rains

Since we have had our fair share of rain this summer, I thought that other Pittsburgh Moms might also need advice about what to do on rainy days. I recognize that when it’s raining really hard you might just prefer to stay home. However, when it’s overcast, drizzling and simply too nasty to go to the playground, you might need t find a place to give your kids some diversion and preserve your sanity!  Here’s a list of places compiled by KDKA, “Best Places To TakeToddlers/Preschoolers On A Rainy Day”. One of the places on the list is one of our favorites, The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. There’s enough there to keep your child amused for hours. They may even throw a tantrum you when it’s time to leave!

I had the opportunity to visit, Lilliput Play Homes Town Center, one of the places on the list for a birthday party recently. Inside of a strip mall in Canonsburg is toddler heaven. There are a series of play houses that, among other things, give kids the opportunity to work in an ice cream shop, ride in a fire truck and work in a grocery store. My daughter loved it! (See photos below)

The Mall, a Great Place on a Rainy Day.

One of my favorite places was omitted. Clearly the folks who compiled the list aren’t shoppers. I find that the mall is a great place to take the kids on a rainy day. Ross Park Mall in particular has a play area that most kids love. If you find yourself at the Kate Spade store or Nordstrom during your trip I won’t judge you. You might even find me there!
(Nordstrom is actually a haven for families. They have the best restrooms in the mall that includes an area for breastfeeding and a family room for changing dirty diapers!)

Enjoy!
