A Working Mom's Secret to Success on Valentine's Day: Manage Expectations...

Lady celebrating Valentine's Day at Eddie V's "To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance." - Oscar Wilde  Greetings from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! Things have been busy. I am still a working mom of three, working full time who is trying to make a difference. I do a lot of things and try to be present so that I can learn from them. I share them on this blog so that we can learn together. Below are some thoughts, hacks, and/or lessons that I have learned from navigating my world. The roots of Valentine’s Day roots go back to St. Valentine, a priest in the early Christian Church known for his compassion and commitment to love. He was a defender of faith, hope, and kindness, reminding us that love is not just a feeling—it’s an action. And, this year I have learned that being free on Valentine's Day is better than living a lie. Valentine's Day, like Christmas, comes every year. However, unlike Christmas, Valentine's Day is about romantic love an...

Working Mom Fun: Spank! The Fifty Shades Parody

I was fortunate enough to obtain tickets to Spank! The Fifty Shades Parody. When I arrived at the Byham Theater the energy was infectious. There were bus loads of women who clearly came to party. One group that made me take notice was from Greensburg, Pennsylvania. These ladies were stylish and sassy! I spoke to them and learned that Spank! was their third outing. They had previous convened for each of the “Sex and the City” movies. “The Greensburg Girls Night Out 3”.

My new friends from Greensburg who know how to party!
The Greensburg Girls were led by a great lady named Deb. She was the organizer and she was the heart of the group. She even invited me to sit with them. So, I was an honorary Greensburg Girl for the night and I liked it! It turns out they were just a bunch of working moms who were out to have a good time. My only regret was not meeting them sooner. They had begun the evening with dinner and drinks in Greensburg so by the time they arrived at the Theater they were ready to party and the theater was ready for them.
Entering the theater was like attending a party with your best girlfriends.  There was dance music like BeyoncĂ©, Christina Alguilera, and Janet Jackson.  There were drinks, even a signature drink with a racy name.

The signature drink!

There were also party favors, many of which are too racy to describe on a nice, respectable blog!
I haven’t read the books, but I know that they are about sex. The show was a fictionalized version about how the books were created. The theory was that the author was inspired by copious amounts of chardonnay, unrealized dreams and a boring marriage. Sex, sexual innuendo and fantasies were the things that made the story flow. It began with sexy dance scene introduction that rivaled a Chippendales’ show and there a series of jokes that kept the audience laughing.
I get paid to write, but don’t think that words will do the play justice. I recommend that you buy a ticket to see the show tonight. It’s worth the money!
