Celebrating Black Maternal Health Week #BMHW25

Mom and three kids Greetings from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! Things have been busy. I am still a working mom of three, working full time who is trying to make a difference. I do a lot of things and try to be present so that I can learn from them. I share them on this blog so that we can learn together. Below are some thoughts, hacks, and/or lessons that I have learned from navigating my world. Black Maternal Health Week April 11-17, 2025 I am a Black mom to three wonderful children. I was blessed to have three successful births. While I am an attorney, my third delivery highlighted the potential risks that occur when a physician fails to listen to the birthing person. Initially, I chalked it up to the physician involved and limited it to my personal birthing experience. Then, I learned that I was not special. I was reading "relish" a magazine insert that I received in my recent subscription to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and discovered a recipe that I thought would be up the alley of all of my non-vegetarian working mom friends. It was described as "[a]  ridiculously simple and hearty rice soup" and I agree.

With fall upon us, there is nothing I love better than soup. You won't see this on a commercial, but soup is a great way to maintain your sexy! It's filling and broth based soups are generally low in calories. They can also be a great way to get nourishing food and maintain your figure.

Here's the recipe that I discovered, "Easy Chicken and Rice Soup" by Jill Melton , located at http://relish.com/recipes/easy-chicken-and-rice-soup/#ixzz2gb3PmwAJ

Recipe by Chatón for another ridiculously simple soup.

Hearty Tortilla Chicken Soup
1-Bag frozen white sweet corn
1-Can of kidney beans
1-onion

Minced garlic

Sautee your corn, onions and beans together. Pour your two cans of tortilla soup in a pot and simmer it. Then, slowly add your other ingredients. At the end, you will have a very hearty, very tasty soup. (If you're in love with a carnivore, you can cook a chicken breast and add it to the soup as well.)

To make it a meal, make some Pillsbury Reduced Fat Crescent Rolls.
