This weekend we got to have family time. And family time is always
good!
Anybody who has kids understands that it
is important to keep them stimulated. One way to do that is to identify interesting events going on and attend the ones that make sense. Given the difference in the developmental
states between a toddler and an infant, it’s challenging to find appropriate activities. It’s even more challenging when their sleep deprived mom is left
to fend for herself. This past weekend though, we struck the perfect balance on
Friday and Sunday because I had help. We spent Saturday at home cuddling and snacking. Don't judge me!
Friday, a grown up play date
Friday night began with a party where I had both cocktails and conversation. No, I did not leave both kids at home. Rather,
I found the mother’s answer to the age old question, “how do I parent and
remain cool”. It is the “mommy play date”. I was fortunate enough to be invited to a party
by the mother of one of my daughter’s classmates. It was my first outing with
both kids and it was great!
First, I learned that other moms LOVE babies. So, I had some relief from holding the infant. Surprisingly, I quickly learned that I didn’t really want relief. It must be the hormones. The other thing I discovered is that older girls LOVE to have toddlers follow them around. So, the best thing about the party was that I had people to entertain my daughter. Granted, the entertainment involved playing, “beauty shop”, which meant that she got her nails painted—something that I normally don’t allow unless the polish is camphor and formaldehyde free. Still, she had the time of her life playing and beauty shop was played outside so the fumes went into the air. While she was out there I was actually able to enjoy an entire pear martini and engage in some adult conversation. I also learned that one way working moms manage to do it all is with a little help from their friends. I am so fortunate that I was able to connect with them! (For the Honest Company moms out there, don’t judge me.)

Sunday at The Children's Museum
Sunday was notable for two reasons. It was
a beautiful spring day. And Andre was with us for most of the day. Andre has been
spending most days and nights at our new home renovating it. And we have missed
him. So having him with us on Sunday was a real treat. It meant that we were
able to go to the Children’s Museum and the toddler was able to play until her
heart was content. Their backyard was
especially fun for the toddler who enjoyed the sandbox and made new friends.
