One Secret to Success as a Working Mom: Stay Open to New Experiences

In the movie Love Jones , the male lead says, "romance is about the possibility of the thing." I agree with that. However, I think that the concept is more universal. life--truly living--is about the possibility of the thing. For a while, I was sleep walking through life, doing what was required without truly embracing it. Recent events have caused me to re-evaluate that and to embrace life and all of its limitless possibilities.   And romance, is about love. Over the past year I have become committed to falling back in love with my life. New relationships have made that love affair possible. And, I don't take them for granted. Creating space for new relationships and making new friends as a single, working mom, and creating space is not easy. But it is necessary. For that reason, I have committed to making new friendships, keeping the old productive ones, and enjoying them all--in the midst of working, parenting, and adulting . A Peek Into the Life of a Working Mom: Date Night

This weekend we got to have couple time. And couple time is always good!  Anybody who has kids understands that it is important to get away from them sometimes. One way to do that is find a someone who comes to your house and watches your kids on a weekend night.  If you’re really lucky, you have a relative who volunteers to do it for free.  If you’re not, you find a babysitter who’s willing to do it economically.  Either way, getting out as a couple is important.  I know this and still it took me nearly five months to get out with my husband after our latest child was born.  Knowing and doing are completely different things.

Every couple needs a date night

Because we live in the hottest part of Pittsburgh from my perspective, we are able to walk to lots of restaurants and bars or take the subway.  Our Saturday adventure led us to Eddie Merlot’s, Pittsburgh’s newest steak and seafood restaurant.  We got off of the “T” at Gateway Center and discovered this great restaurant.  We intended to bar hop, but we enjoyed Eddie Merlot’s so much that we stayed all night.  It was great to enjoy a new spot and even better to have alone time with my man. I had forgotten how much fun that could be!

When the bartender heard that we hadn't been out in so long Eddie Merlot's gave us two free red velvet cupcakes to celebrate.

We also received instructions to "get out more".  I think we're going to heed that advice! And, we're likely going to find ourselves at Eddie Merlot's again.  The food was delicious. The service was amazing. And, the decor was stunning.

(Thanks to our wonderful babysitter Emily who made this night happen!)
