A Secret to Success as a Working Mom: Turn Burn Out Into Bliss and Embrace Joy

Last weekend my youngest was committed to going to the "Water Steps" a man-made water fall in Pittsburgh by the rivers. (Fun Fact: Three rivers converge in Pittsburgh--The Ohio River, The Monongahela River, and the Allegheny River.)  He kept asking. I knew he was serious when he said, "If you won't take me, I'll ask  daddy!" Given that it was highly unlikely that would happen on an unscheduled day, I relented. So, we went. It wasn’t planned in the way most things in my life are. No calendar block. No checklist. No “productive” purpose attached. And, so in some respects it was uncomfortable. And yet, it seemed necessary. It was the idea of my 8-year-old—offered with the kind of urgency only children possess when something is profoundly important to them.

Wordless Wednesday (almost): Photos from the Holidays

Christmas 2013 (Our photo shoot from last year when the baby was a mere bump...)

People criticize this time of year for being too busy, too commercial, and too tiring. The holidays are that, but they are much more. Even with the things that make us complain about the holidays they remain a very special time of year. Here are some photos of our family as we enjoyed the Christmas season.

One of my favorite things about the holidays is having my entire family together. My sister comes up from Atlanta and it's like we hit the lottery. She is so full of life that everything is better when she is around.

We were fortunate enough to attend the "Jack and Jill" 2014 Cotillion at the Omni William Penn Hotel. It was a great event. The hotel is just beautiful this time of year and it was fun to dress up!

Of course, Christmas was all about the kids. We're fortunate enough that we are able to make their dreams come true. So, Christmas morning was a series of oohs, ahs, and squeals!

After all of the excitement, my men fell asleep happy and exhausted.
