A Peek Into the Life of a Working Mom: Having Kids Can Disrupt Your Schedule

Me with the kids
Having a baby is one of the best things that can happen to you. However, every parent with a small child understands that little people can turn your life upside down. They can turn formerly stylish outfits into spit up blankets. They can transform formerly prompt people into tardy ones. They wreak havoc on households that were formerly organized. And if you had any areas of improvement beforehand, having a baby can turn those into weaknesses that threaten to derail you. If you have two babies, you're really in trouble!

Having Kids Can Disrupt Your Schedule

Being punctual has never been my strong suit. My mother said they induced me to be born. That is how deeply ingrained my desire to move slowly is. That said, you live and learn. I have earned degrees, passed licensure exams, held jobs, and managed to generally be on time.

Social events are a different story. The amount of things I have to do, and the amount of things I want to do sometimes conflict. I really should just say "no" more often. No,  I don't want to attend that event more than I want to complete a blog post. No, I don't want to meet for lunch more than I want to cuddle with my kids. And no, I do not want to have a play date when I'd prefer to stay home. No, no, no, no, no!

Still, it's not that I want to say no all of the time. One, people don't like that. And I want to leave my kids early years with the same friends that I had when I became a mom. Two, I actually enjoy the events once I get there, I just don't have the amount of time to be there as other people seem to. An hour of socializing usually does me just fine. Three, I invite people to things sometimes and if I always say no nobody will show up when I need them!

I have found that I can show up on time and the kids and I can look like a hot mess. Or we can be late and look good. We can't generally do both.

What my kids like to do instead of getting ready

So what's an overly committed working mom to do? The truth? Say "yes" a little too much and probably show up late, a lot. With social media, ain't no way that we're showing up looking like hot messes.  Ain't no way. Don't judge me too harshly. God isn't through with me yet.

Having Children Gives You Great Excuses!

If babies disrupt your schedule like this. Why do people keep having babies? There's the sexual urges can be very powerful thing. But also, they are really little joy generators that enrich your life. Also, according to the article below, babies and toddlers are great sources of excuses. Check out the article.
