Mom and three kids Greetings from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! Things have been busy. I am still a working mom of three, working full time who is trying to make a difference. I do a lot of things and try to be present so that I can learn from them. I share them on this blog so that we can learn together. I was blessed to have three successful births. While I am an attorney, my third delivery highlighted the potential risks that occur when a physician fails to listen to the birthing person. Initially, I chalked it up to the physician involved and limited it to my personal birthing experience. Then, I learned that I was not special. Reading on the Run: Pittsburgh Grants Paid Sick Leave

Successful working women keep track of important matters in the news. However, we are not one-dimensional. Some of us also want to keep up with celebrity gossip and fashion news too. Even in the era of the Internet and 24 hour news shows and E!, it can be challenging to keep up with everything.


Fortunately for you, I make it my job to keep up on articles of interest to working moms and when I find notable ones, I share them with you. Below is a very exciting one about paid leave benefits in Pittsburgh.


The United States is the only developed country with no national paid sick leave law.  And working mothers and fathers are about fed up with that. For that reason, the topic of paid leave has gotten a great deal of attention in the blogosphere lately.
"How is it that the most developed nation in the world, a leading super power, can’t figure out how to support working families in this specific way?" 
Well, it is not only bloggers like me who are asking this question. The residents of the cities of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia asked the question and they have been heard by their city councils. On August 3, 2015, Pittsburgh City Council voted 7 to 1 in favor of the "Paid Sick Days Act," legislation which will provide paid sick time to employees working in the City of Pittsburgh.  Read more about this Act by clicking here. Philadelphia passed a similar law in February.

Valarie Jarrett from the White House has spoken out in support of these laws. However, as is often the case in politics, the passages of these laws has not been without controversy. Apparently, some member of the Pennsylvania Senate oppose laws like this and want to prohibit local municipalities from passing laws like this. For more on this opposition, click here.

Shame on you state legislators! We elect you to support families not interfere with progress. Remember, getting sick is not a political issue, it is a human issue. All workers benefit from laws like this.
