One Secret to Success as a Working Mom: Remember Kids Will Be Kids

At Atria's I have SO many incomplete blog posts that it's laughable. They're incomplete because I'll start writing them and then life happens. They're incomplete because in between my inspiration for the post and editing it, I realized that I had a sponsored post to complete. They're incomplete because some national event took precedence. They're incomplete because I realized that we needed milk, eggs, or some other essential and I just forgot about it. There are so many explanations about why they're incomplete that I could devote an entire series of posts to that. Instead, I'd like to share a post from several years ago about how my kids messed up my grandmother's birthday dinner...

Like most people, I think that my birthday is a major deal. It is one day where I feel good and am incredibly grateful.  Years ago, I worked for someone who always took her birthday off and I usually do the same. This year though, I had an interview. So, I went to work. Despite that, it was still an amazing day!

Celebrating my birthday

My birthday was punctuated by two events. My husband who struggles to get up early made me breakfast, and that was awesome. Also, my busy, work obsessed mother arrived in Pittsburgh to surprise me for my birthday.

My mom, me and the baby

That surprise was the icing on my cake, the flame on the top of my candle the pot of gold at the end of my rainbow. Like most women, I have come to realize that I would be nothing without my mother. So, having her with me for my birthday was the best possible present. Also, she surprised me with great style. She arrived at Soba, where we were having dinner, with an orchid in her hands and a smile on her face.

I also managed to take a nice walk. When I was an avid runner, I would run on my birthday. Since having my last baby I haven’t been resumed running yet. Still my walk was filled with sunshine and smiles. It was over seventy degrees in Pittsburgh, which made it a great day to be alive!

I am grateful to have made it another year and I am excited about what is in store.

Happy birthday to me!!!
